Direct Drive Turntable - also available as the SL-1200 with EPA-120 tonearm (1975-77)
The Technics SL-120 uses a direct drive motor, therefore the rotor, which is the rotating part of the motor, is connected directly to the turntable platter.
The spindle of the motor and the shaft of the turntable platter are the same.
The deck is fitted with a strobo indicator which is lit when the power/speed switch selector is turned on.
Pitch control is variable over a 10% range.
There is no mechanism on the SL120 to change the position of the belt or idler, therefore there is no wow or flutter or unwanted speed change.
Also, unlike previous players, there is no reduction or transmission mechanism and as the motor rotates at an ultra low speed, wear of parts is reduced to an absolute minimum.
